What are the going rates for nannies in my area?
In the state of California, nannies are typically requesting above the minimum wage, as well as one to two weeks of paid vacation time, paid holidays off, paid sick time, and a healthcare stipend or healthcare benefits. It is customary to pay more per hour for a higher number of children, or for hours which fewer staff wish to work (e.g., overnight shift, weekends).
How will I pay my nanny?
We have two options for nanny hiring. California, and several other states, have specific laws about employees and many domestic workers such as nannies are required by the state to be W-2 employees on payroll. Option 1. After our process is completed, you pay your nanny on your own as your employee. We provide a vetted list of recommended payroll companies to use. You set the payment method up with your nanny. Option 2. We offer a full-service employment model where we hire your nanny, handle payroll, worker’s compensation, California legally required posters, and all other aspects of employment.
Will I need worker’s compensation insurance for my nanny?
In the state of California, yes, you are legally required to provide worker’s compensation insurance. We have information about how to do this easily and quickly in our nanny onboarding checklist for families. With our employment model, we provide worker’s compensation for your nanny.
How will I provide my nanny with a W-2?
A W-2 is a legally required tax form provided to employees to show how much they have earned. Most payroll companies will charge a fee at the end of the tax year to prepare this for you. This is something that we can provide annually if your nanny works as an employee for us.

An I-9 form is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of a worker in the USA. It is legally required for every employee to fill out within 72 hours of their first date of hire, according to current laws in 2023, which are subject to change. Your employee will need to provide the appropriate documents to demonstrate identity and legal ability to work in the United States. Section one is filled out by the employee. Section two is filled out by the employer with the correct documents listed on the correct columns
